Since Zwift was first released, there has been a steady run of updates and new features. Riders initially had to work out for themselves how things worked on Zwift. This post has been maintained to help new riders understand the ins and outs of Watopia.
In addition to the essential Zwift User Manual, this page also covers useful hints and tips for getting started. A lot of the detailed information has come about from the excellent community that is the Facebook Zwift Riders group. Any links on this page are either to reviews I have written which might help, or locations where I have found a particular product cheapest.
There are not commission links on TitaniumGeek. But if you click an ad that does help support the site. This is because as Zwift is able to help estimate your power from your heart rate. Plus many race teams of Zwift tend to request that you use HRM when racing with them. The choice of heart rate monitor is varied. Some of the Garmin watches, such as the Fenix 5 are able to broadcast heart rate date, which Zwift can pick up. Some people prefer the certainty of a chest strap monitor like the 4iiii Viiiivabut personally I find the Polar OH1 optical heart rate monitor is probably the bestas I can also use it with swimming when not on the turbo trainer.
After the install, Zwift checks for updates — this will happen every time the game loads. This will pop up every time you log in, to confirm your kit is working, and you have the right bits connected. Like the username, Zwift will remember the last devices you used and will search for an connect to them automatically.
You just have the make sure everything is working. At the top RIGHT of the Paired Devices screen is the communications settings where you can toggle BlueTooth on and off — either using your computers Bluetooth chip, or pairing devices from your phone.
You only need to use your phone to pair devices if running on Apple TV, as you can only have two devices connected to the Apple TV. But Zwift is able to pair to them via the Companion App, and then rebroadcast to the iOS set top box. Initially, there were only two fully compatible trainers. Now there is a whole world of turbo trainers, with manufacturers actively producing exceptionally advanced machines like the Ta cx Neo 2T at the top of the range. If you are setting up with a classic turbo not automatically resistance controlledyou will need to pair your speed sensor.Zwift riders have been stuck at Level 25 for seemingly forever.
Zwift HQ has now pulled the leaver opening up upgrades all the way to level So what do you get, and how far do you have to go? For the last eleventy million yearsor should that be kilometres?
Zwift riders have been stuck at level However today ZwiftHQ pressed the button opening the way for riders to get recognition for having 25,km it will take to reach Zwift level On an indoor trainer. That is utterly inconceivable before Zwift! Heck just think of the amount of sweat?! So for many Zwift riders who had already hit the Zwift level 25 barrier, the Zwift Tron bike was the next goal, but there are now a lot of the neo wheels steeds flying around Watopia and the other Zwift worlds.
People were beginning to hunger after another challenge. The below tables show the XP at which each level triggers and how far that is in miles or kilometres. XP is awarded at 30 XP per mile, or for a proper cyclist, using a proper system of measurement 20 XP per kilometre. There is a slight complication to the maths is that you can be awarded Zwift large and small bonuses. When you do log in if you find that if you have been riding a while, there is the option to unlock the additional Zwift levels or ride thought like the rest of us mortals.

Cycling Titanium Adventures.Given the currently global crisis, more and more cyclists are turning their attentions indoors as they hope to keep fit throughout the self-isolation and social distancing.
One of the best ways of keeping yourself motivated through these uncertain times is to add a virtual training programme like Zwift into your life. Zwift is a turbo trainer game that enables you to link you turbo trainer up your computer, iPad, iPhone or Apple TV, letting you ride with other cyclists in a virtual environment, therefore helping to alleviate some of the boredom associated with indoor riding.
As well as competing against others riders in Zwift racers, those seeking specific training sessions can access workouts designed by professional coaches, and these can be completed in groups with riders completing efforts at the same intensity based on a percentage of their FTP.
Zwift takes the boredom out of turbo training. In a word, no.
The most obvious thing you need to use Zwift is a turbo trainer. If you want immersive gameplay, are going to be using Zwift regularly, and can afford it, then a smart turbo trainer such as the Wahoo Kickr or Tacx Neo Smart could be a good option. These turbo trainers generally have a direct drive design, with a built in power meter and variable resistance.
These turbos will measure your power output, then send this data to Zwift to power your online avatar. Data from the speed sensor or power meter is then sent to your computer and transferred into the game. Zwifting with an iPad makes the process portable. The most widely used option is iOS, though an iPad does allow for easy transportation and the AppleTV option is the most cost effective way of using Zwift in full HD on a big screen.
The first step is to download the Zwift application onto your device. You are then prompted to set up an account, and give details such as your gender, height, and weight, which will be used to create your avatar and to give an accurate measurement of your speed in the game. Zwift gives you plenty of options to make your avatar look as pro as possible.
The next step is to set up your avatar to give him or her some nice kit and your dream bike. While the Richmond and Innsbruck courses are copies of the courses from the and Road World Championships respectively, and London uses the route of the Prudential RideLondon Classique, Watopia is a made up course which has been plonked down somewhere in the Solomon Islands according the Strava.
New York City features roads built mostly within the confines of Central Park. Explore a selection of virtual worlds on Zwift. Although there are numerous user-generated Strava segments, each course contains three different official segments, each shown by an arch over the course. The orange arch measures your overall lap time, the green arch measures your time over a short sprint, and the polka dot arch measures your time up a hill on each course.
In group workout mode, riders all train at the same effort level — based on a percentage of their FTP. That means that they can be producing different power values, and still stay riding together. There are a large number of workouts to choose from. Zwift group workout keeps everyone together. On the left of the screen you have the overall structure of the workout, at the bottom a graph of your power through the whole of the workout, and at the top an indication of your current power, and the power you should be aiming for in that specific interval.
Races on Zwift are published on listed either on the main menu screen before starting the game or on their companion app To join a race, you fire up your Zwift app, join the race — just as you would any group ride on Zwift — and away you go. Zwift do ask that you edit your name with your rider category and the abbreviation of the race name. Yes: there are Zwift categories. Race results are published on ZwiftPower. Zwift User Manual – The Unofficial Guide to Zwift!
Zwift takes indoor training to a new immersive level. What Zwift is, how it works and what equipment you need. By Ben DelaneySimon Bromley. Zwift is an online cycling game and training program that enables users to ride, train and compete in a virtual world. Aimed at eliminating the excruciating boredom of simply sitting on the trainer and staring at the wall, Zwift has exploded in popularity since its release in Indoor cycling is all the rage at the moment.
There are a number of different indoor training apps available, but Zwift is arguably the most fully featured, and almost certainly the most popular — reports suggest that over half a million people have signed up for an account so far.
More and more features are constantly being added to Zwift, which is mostly great because it adds a lot of value to an impressive package. But it can also make knowing how and where to start quite daunting. Zwift is an online, interactive training and racing platform.
Your pedalling on a trainer drives your avatar around a virtual course. The harder you pedal, the faster you go. Zwift has seven different worlds more on these laterand within each you can navigate the roads as you go.
You can ride with thousands of other riders inside Zwift. You can join group rides and races — and even get a draft from other riders — or just join the world and jump on with other riders when you want to. You can also do structured power-based workouts. It features a multitude of gamified elements that encourage you to ride longer and harder, with the goal of increasing your fitness. It takes into account your weight, your power or calculated power, the road gradient and the draft, or lack thereof, from other riders.
Brands such as StagesWahoo and SRM now all offer fully integrated indoor training solutions for those looking to squeeze every last watt out of their virtual training and racing sessions. A smart trainer is the next option. Like an indoor training bike, a smart trainer will measure your power directly and transmit that data straight to Zwift.
If you have a power meteryou can make do with any kind of trainer or rollers. Zwift will then crunch the numbers to estimate your power. On your Mac or PC, you can do it online on the Zwift website. On a tablet or model device, you can download the Zwift app from the Apple App Store or Google Playand sign up through that. This app puts a number of convenient features at your fingertips, such as changing the direction of your avatar and messaging other Zwifters.
The Companion app is also a great way of exploring and signing up for the many events that Zwift offers — such as group rides, group workouts and races.
Each of these worlds has a number of preset courses for you to ride, or you can just pedal freely around each map. There is a catch, though. On any particular day, there will only be two worlds available to ride.
This might sound restrictive, but Zwift is designed to be a social platform, and this stops the user base spreading out too thinly across the platform. If you want to know when a particular world will be available to ride, you can see the schedule for the coming month on the right of the World Choice screen. On the Mobile Link app, you can see a more detailed list with descriptions, times and more information. To join, just click the ride. Group rides are categorised to ensure everyone rides together.
If you are not yet riding, you can receive a reminder. If you are already riding and an event is starting soon, you can join, and when the start time gets close, your avatar will be transported to the start line, where you can warm up on a virtual trainer while waiting to start.
In the start corral, you can see the other riders who will be doing the event, and your instant message chats will be seen only by others in that group.More and more cyclists use the roller together with the application Zwift. The community of the well-known platform does not stop growing and many are the curious who begin to ask questions about the levels, prizes and bikes and wheels available at Zwift. With the will to clarify all these doubts and to provide a guide with the prizes that are awarded when passing each level, I have created this publication.
Discover how unlock bikes, wheels and other accessories! Will you be able to reach level 50? If you have managed to install Zwift in 6 steps and have already rolled your first kilometers through Watopia, Richmond, London or New York, you will have noticed that everyone has a different avatar character. Zwift allows us to customize our avatar in a very specific way. We can change the hair, the jersey, the socks, the beard or the color of the skin, but if something is especially attractive in the game interface is the possibility of customize the frame of the bicycle and its wheels.
For this Zwift has exact replicas of the best models on the market. Thanks to this fun application you can equip your virtual "me" with the best bikes Specialized, Trek, Cannondale, Cervelo or Canyon. A large number of bicycles, wheels and accessories that you will have available as you progress through the different levels. To customize your avatar you just have to go to the "garage" and select what you have available at your fingertips.
In the "store" section you can exchange your drops of sweat money for new bicycles and wheels. As I have previously commented Zwift has up to 50 levels. The "game" starts at the lowest level and the user will level up as they accumulate experience points, the so-called "XP Points".
You can add experience points for different reasons but the most common is the accumulation of kilometers. Zwift gives 20 experience points for every kilometer traveled on the platform. Additionally, you can add experience points after participating in events, using power ups or moving up to certain points on the map.
To know the level you are at and view the remaining progress until you jump to the next level, Zwift permanently offers a visual field in the form of a bar that indicates the level. This field is available at the top of the screen just below the distance, height difference and duration of the activity. After passing each level the game gives a prize to the user.
Then I leave you with the list of prizes that are automatically unlocked as you advance through the levels. As you can see for yourself, it will not cost you the same to advance from the second level to the third level as from thirty to thirty-one.
Another very interesting aspect of customization that Zwift offers us is the possibility of buy and ride the best bikes in the world.FTP, or Functional Threshold Power, is the wattage you can stay below and sustain for longer durations, while going above it causes fatigue to occur very quickly. Think of FTP as a benchmark for you to try and beat, the same way you try to beat your max rep at the gym. It also shapes your training zones in workouts, personalizing your experience.
If you know your FTP number, you can enter it when you create a Zwift account. When it needs updating, you can do so in game from the ride menu. Choose them from the workouts page in Zwift.
There are three FTP tests to choose from: 1 hour, 45 min or 20min.How to level up in Zwift faster
For more tips on how to tackle an FTP test click here. If you have a smart trainer the warm-up will utilize ERG mode.
Once the actual tests begin Zwift automatically turns off ERG mode. ERG mode needs to be off during these tests so you can generate as much power as possible.
The standard FTP test starts with a long easy warmup, a few ramps, and a 5-minute effort to get the legs pumping. After that, it's time to give it your all - and go as hard as you can for 20 solid minutes. Pace yourself and try to go as hard as you can sustain for the entire 20 minutes - you will be scored on the final minute segment.
The short variation of the standard FTP test starts off with a short warmup, a quick leg opening ramp, and a 5 minute hard effort to get the legs pumping.
Zwift Shopping Guide: What To Buy At Each Level
After a brief rest, it's time to give it your all and go as hard as you can for 20 solid minutes. Pace yourself and try to go as hard as you can sustain for the entire 20 minutes - you'll be scored on the final 20 minute segment. Upon saving your ride, you'll be notified if your FTP improved. This is a ramp test designed to estimate your FTP.
A ramp test uses a relatively short progressive build of one-minute steps to identify the upper limit of your aerobic capacity quickly. The ramp portion of the test should, ideally, take about minutes to complete.
It should start out feeling extremely easy. And then, rather suddenly, it will get much, much harder. It is at that point - when the difficulty really shifts - that you need to dig in. From there, you should max out within minutes.
This is a maximal effort until exhaustion. You are trying to record your absolute best one-minute power. So keep pedaling until you simply cannot go any further. At that point, stop pedaling, and the test will automatically end and shift to a nice long cooldown.
